The former NFL defensive lineman, who was active for his first four league campaigns with the Baltimore team and earned a championship ring, has died. He was 39 at the time of his death.
The college he attended, his former school, confirmed that he left us on Friday morning. The university did not nor the Ravens provided a reason for his passing in their releases.
"Arthur’s presence was a blessing to everyone he encountered," said the team's GM Eric DeCosta. "That wide, cheerful grin, infectious energy and ever-present positive outlook established an aura that always raised spirits."
Jones was selected in the later rounds of the 2010 NFL draft and recorded eight and a half of his 10 career sacks during a two-year period in 2012 and 2013. The Baltimore squad beat the San Francisco team in the title match to cap the season in 2012.
In that historic contest, Jones brought down San Francisco's Colin Kaepernick right before a blackout at the venue in Louisiana. He additionally grabbed a fumble during that title decider.
Following his Ravens career, Jones was a member for two years with the Indianapolis team and wrapped up his career with the Washington club in the 2017 season.
Jones played college football at Syracuse and was the big brother of MMA star Jon Jones and NFL veteran Chandler Jones, a four-time all-star who earned a championship with the New England Patriots.
During his college career, Jones achieved a Syracuse best for defensive tackles with 38.5 tackles behind the line. He was named a All-Big East first-teamer in each of his final two seasons.
"The former Orange star was a tremendous player and even better person," said the school's AD John Wildhack. "We were lucky that Arthur kept backing our team once his playing days ended. He touched countless young athletes, ever positive and inspiring words."
