Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
