President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Memorials across the state have been held in their remembrance.
The president explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump told the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Attendees gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to support policing efforts in Washington DC.
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to help others.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event caused the government to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed a news show that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” the governor told the audience at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
