Several days post the powerful storm pummelled into western Jamaica with unprecedented strength, locals in affected areas by the shoreline are persistently anticipating for relief.
Numerous thoroughfares are obstructed by wreckage and people are isolated with limited provisions, without electricity or clean water, and no idea of when normalcy will return.
Officials reported on Saturday that no fewer than 28 individuals in Jamaica have lost their lives following the hurricane's impact as a powerful maximum-level cyclone with 185 mph (297km/h) sustained winds.
This represents almost a 50% increase in the fatalities within a day, and figures may increase as workers advance into new parts of the island in the near future.
The Westmoreland region is believed to have the second highest number of potential fatalities, behind the southeastern parish to the south east. The eye of the storm hit somewhere between the bordering areas. In St Elizabeth an approximately nine out of ten houses have been destroyed.
'What comes next is unclear', referred to the scene as 'total devastation'.
A long stretch of road headed west into Westmoreland Parish winds through a cemetery of vegetation – piles of tree parts, broken and contorted, blanketing the landscape for miles.
Heaps of wreckage are heaped on the parish's roadsides, near compromised edifices, shipping crates turned on their side and local inhabitants moving through the ruins.
Those living in Whitehouse, a seaside community and business center on the edge of Westmoreland Parish, say the wait for assistance is growing concerning.

He positioned himself under cover on a temporary seat in front of a structure scarcely remaining – completely missing its roof – uncertain about future steps.
Roughly four hundred thousand residents in Jamaica were lacking electricity recently , and many additional people have lost telephone and internet connectivity, isolated from external contact.
Officials announced that numerous connectivity tools have been installed nationwide to assist with online connectivity.
Officials responded to concerns the administration has encountered for its reaction, saying there were "several factors" resulting in postponements.
"Refuelling, Areas for Landing, Accessibility and Timing/Visibility," authorities clarified.
The Prime Minister stressed that the "immediate focus is on removing wreckage, fixing necessary utilities", as well as providing food and medical supplies.
Among a minor neighborhood just outside of Whitehouse, Robert Morris supported himself on fractured building material. In the background, the fishing village he has called home for all his years has been destroyed, including his income source.
"Our community is completely destroyed," he said. The fishing infrastructure was demolished and is now "completely gone"
"The hurricane destroyed everything," he revealed, encompassing his maritime equipment, which he characterizes as "completely destroyed"
Residents of these regions are filled with pride and resilience, phrases commonly used on local radio stations and visible through their optimism in the trying conditions.
Located below the structure of a badly damaged building, Roy Perry said he has lost everything, but "we must maintain belief and positive outlook continues"
"Can't give up. Not gonna give up," he affirmed.
It is the same tone expressed by a local farmer, located in his transport distributing salvaged crops – his final agricultural products that was protected from the hurricane.
Of his farm, he said: "Total devastation occurred. Complete demolition happened" But he promptly continued: "We must express gratitude for survival"
At the same time, external support is commencing delivery into Jamaica.
United States officials stated that its emergency relief unit had arrived. And countries including the UK have also promised significant monetary support and critical resources.
