Harrison Burrows missed a late penalty for struggling Sheffield United as Hull notched their third success of the season, winning 1-0 at the MKM Stadium. David Akintola gave Hull a first-half lead after the half-hour mark before the Blades’ Gustavo Hamer shot against the post.
The home side defended their lead for much of the second period and Hamer was denied a leveller on several instances before the Hull goalkeeper came to his side’s rescue when he stopped the feeble attempt.
Augustus Kargbo opened his account for Blackburn to rescue a 1-1 draw against Stoke. The Blackburn team appeared to be losing after a Stoke player scored first in the latter period. But Rovers responded and the scorer, who had faced heavy criticism for his role in a previous goal, lashed in a late leveller from inside the box.
Kargbo rattled the frame before the conclusion as Rovers came close to a stunning victory, but they will be thankful to have gained a deserved point. In contrast, the Stoke manager will wonder how his team squandered their control of the game and they are now on a four-match winless run Championship matches.
On Friday night, Wrexham drew 1-1 for the third time in a row against Birmingham, leading Phil Parkinson to say that his side are growing into the Championship. A Wrexham player scored the first goal inside the opening quarter-hour, but Patrick Roberts leveled for the Blues within moments of the second-half kickoff.
